Why theater?: I grew up loving to read, and I've always loved stories. I think music is the most expressive and meaningful way to tell a story.
Tell us about “Meeting our Heroes”: I wanted to unite young, emerging writers with the musical giants who inspired, mentored, or influenced them in some way. I find myself talking with other new composers about the shows and composers whose music really means something to them, and I wanted to celebrate that idea of legacy and community in this industry. This night is about connecting generations of musical theater artists and honoring the established writers who have made such important contributions to our community.
What kind of theater speaks to you? What or who inspires you as an artist?: I'm honoring Michael John LaChiusa at "Meeting Our Heroes," and I find his music particularly meaningful and inspiring. Additionally, I really love the music of Maury Yeston, Stephen Sondheim, and Adam Guettel.
What’s your favorite show tune?: I could never choose just one!
If you could work with anyone you’ve yet to work with, who would it be?: I'm always excited to work with anyone who is an innovative musical dramatist. I have been so lucky to work with and learn from Jason Robert Brown, Georgia Stitt, Michael John LaChiusa, and Larry O'Keefe as a music assistant.
What show have you recommended to your friends?: Heathers the Musical at New World Stages! It's so VERY.
What’s the most played song on your iPod?: The entire GIANT soundtrack.
What’s up next?: My show, Legends & Lore, will be presented in concert at the New York Theater Barn this fall, and my collaborator and I are hard at work on writing and rewriting and rewriting again our Act II!
