Name: Olivia de Guzman Emile
Hometown: Mesquite, Texas
Education: BFA, Musical Theatre
Favorite Credits: I've played Christmas Eve in Avenue Q at 3 different theaters in DFW and 1 in New York. Another of my favorite credits is playing the The Patient in 4.48 Psychosis.
Why theater?: I'm addicted to the balance of discipline and play, the collaborative process, and the way that live theatre can create beautiful, unexpected moments that can never be recreated.
Tell us about As We Lie Still: It's a unique story that explores themes that I find interesting, and glimpses into relationships between characters that, to me, read both real as well as fantastic. And the music is just gorgeous.
What inspired you to write As We Lie Still?: My sickeningly talented husband, Patrick Emile, created the story and characters. AWLS is definitely his story and his baby. I have writing experience from working on devised theatre, so I was tasked with the book, but I had big support from Patrick and from our dramaturges along the way.
If you could work with anyone you've yet to work with, who would it be?: Patrick and I have been collaborating on music and theatre for almost a decade, and I feel very fortunate to have had those experiences. I'd love to work with Tracey Moore, who is a beast of a talent. I've been proven to completely geek out in the presence of celebrities, so this question is tough.
What’s your biggest guilty pleasure?: Reality TV cooking competitions. Karaoke. Whiskey.
What’s the most played song on your iTunes?: Recently, it's "Rabid Animal" by Lake Street Dive. Their newest album is my official 2014 summer jam.
If you weren’t working in theater, you would be _____?: A really pushy, obnoxious stage mom for a kid who is totally into it.
What’s up next?: Back to teaching music and theatre for a while, then in December, I am joining a tour of Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer: The Musical, as a puppeteer and singer.
