Name: Matt Moses

Hometown: Bay Ridge and Marine Park Brooklyn, NY

Education:
Yale School of Drama

Favorite Credits: Pamela Precious, Daniella Uses Dirty Words, The Bedtrick.

Why theater?:
Liveness. I like when people spill into the street after a show and they’re feeling good and then they go home and have sex. I want to write plays that make people go home and bone.

Tell us about The Cloud?:

It's a sex farce that takes place in the internet.

What inspired you to write The Cloud?:
I was initially thinking about how technology often squashes drama. So much drama is built around a group of characters being isolated in a single space. Now that the cell phone exists, it’s very easy for the outside world to puncture that isolation and defuse the drama. I wanted to find a way that technology is instrumental in creating drama.

Also, I was thinking about how bizarre it is to be able to so easily know what exes of yours are up to. And how, if at all, sharing every detail of our lives with the whole world has changed intimacy.

What kind of theater speaks to you? What or who inspires you as an artist?: I like all sorts of theater. I love great acting. I like when dense language is navigated with aplomb. I particularly love funny plays.

If you could work with anyone you’ve yet to work with, who would it be?:
Matthew Warchus, Glenn Fitzgerald, Johanna Day, Stephen Barker Turner, Marian Seldes.

What show have you recommended to your friends?:Fly By Night at Playwrights Horizons. It’s going to be awesome.

Who would play you in a movie about yourself and what would it be called?:
Matt Dellapina. It would be called “I Apologize in Advance”

What’s your biggest guilty pleasure?: Political blogs.

What’s the most played song on your iTunes?: Using Spotify these days--keeping my music in the cloud. I've had this Chilly Gonzales song on repeat lately: “Smothered Mate”.

If you weren’t working in theater, you would be _____?:
richer/less happy.

What’s up next?:

Working on a play about a girl who becomes convinced that she’s the love child of Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton. Also recently finished a play called Index Crimes. It’s not a comedy. It’s about an NYPD officer who challenges the department’s stop and frisk policy.

Also, I perform every Friday night at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Chelsea with house improv group The Law Firm.
